Introducing Easy 3D Viewer for Shopify

Ever bought something online and had it show up smaller than you expected? Or returned a pair of shoes because they looked different in person? That’s the gap between a photo and the real thing, and it costs Shopify merchants real money in refunds, support tickets, and shoppers who just close the tab instead of buying.

A product photo only shows one angle. If a shopper can’t see the back of a chair, the underside of a shoe, or how thick a piece of jewelry actually is, they hesitate. Some ask a support question. Some just leave. Some buy anyway and send it back once it arrives.

That hesitation is expensive, and photos alone can’t fix it.

So we built Easy 3D Viewer, a 3D and AR product viewer app for Shopify. It lets shoppers spin, zoom, and inspect a product in 3D, and even place it in their own room using AR, right from the product page. No app for the shopper to download. No coding for you to do.

It’s live on the Shopify App Store now. Here’s everything it does.

Why We Built Easy 3D Viewer

Photos do a lot, but they can’t replace picking something up. When you’re in a real shop, you turn a product over in your hands. You check the weight, the finish, the scale next to your own hand. A photo can’t give a shopper that.

Merchants selling furniture, footwear, jewelry, electronics, toys, or anything else where shape and scale matter run into this constantly. A sofa might look perfect in a photo, then feel too big once it’s actually in the room. A pair of shoes might photograph well from the side but hide a detail that only shows from the back.

Before a proper 3D app existed, merchants dealt with this in a few ways. Some added more photos and hoped that they covered enough angles. Some wrote longer size charts and product descriptions. Some just accepted a higher return rate as the cost of selling online.

None of those actually solve the problem. Only letting a shopper see the product from every side does that.

There’s also a second group we built this for: merchants who already have 3D files sitting on a hard drive somewhere. If your products go through any kind of 3D design or manufacturing process, there’s a good chance a .glb or .gltf file already exists for them. Most merchants never think to use that file in their store, because there was never an easy way to do it. Now there is.

That’s the gap we built Easy 3D Viewer to close.

What Is Easy 3D Viewer?

Easy 3D Viewer is a Shopify app that puts an interactive 3D product model on the page. Shoppers drag to rotate it, scroll to zoom in on the details, and on both iPhone and Android, they can place it in their own space with AR to check the size before buying. There’s nothing for them to install. It all happens in the browser.

On your side, setup is simple. Upload a model, connect it to a product, and add the viewer to your theme. A live preview shows exactly what shoppers will see as you adjust it, so nothing goes live by accident. Once you’re happy with how it looks, save it, and it’s on your store.

What Easy 3D Viewer Can Do

Here’s a closer look at what that actually means once it’s live on your store.

Let shoppers handle the product, not just look at it

The core of the app is the viewer itself. Shoppers drag to rotate the model, scroll or pinch to zoom, and everything responds instantly, on a phone the same way it does on a desktop. Turn on auto-spin if you want the model to rotate on its own. There’s a fullscreen button for a closer look, and a reset button that brings the view back to your starting angle.

Add augmented reality, with nothing to install

With AR turned on, a shopper can place your product in their own room using just their phone’s browser. Android runs this through Google’s Scene Viewer, straight from your uploaded .glb file. iPhone runs it through Apple’s Quick Look, which needs a separate .usdz file that you provide.

No .usdz file, and iPhone shoppers still get the full 3D viewer, just not the AR placement. Either way, there’s nothing to download. They tap a button and point their camera.

Put a model anywhere, not just the product page

Most 3D apps stop at the product page. This one doesn’t have to. Once a model is in your library, you can place it on your homepage, a landing page, or a blog post using its Model ID. For places a theme block can’t reach, there’s a copy-paste embed. Every model also gets its own shareable link, so you can drop it into an email or a message before a customer even lands on your site.

Set the look, then watch it update live

You control exactly how a model presents itself before a shopper ever sees it. Set the starting angle and zoom, choose a background color, adjust lighting, and add a shadow if you want it grounded on the page. If your model has built-in animations, play them, loop them, or let shoppers switch between them. Every setting change shows up immediately in the same viewer your customers will see.

Built to keep your store fast

Your model files live in your own Shopify Files and get served from Shopify’s network, the same one your store already runs on. The viewer only loads on pages where you’ve placed a model, so it never slows down a page that doesn’t need it.

Who Easy 3D Viewer Works Best For

  • Furniture stores: let shoppers check proportions before they commit to a piece that has to fit through a doorway.
  • Footwear and apparel brands: show true scale and finish, the kind of detail a flat photo tends to flatten out.
  • Jewelry sellers: let shoppers inspect fine detail, clasps, and settings from every angle instead of just the one the photographer chose.
  • Electronics stores: show ports, buttons, and build quality clearly, which matters when a shopper is comparing similar-looking models.
  • Toy and homeware brands: let shoppers get a feel for size and shape before the box even arrives.
  • Merchants with existing 3D files: reuse assets already sitting from manufacturing or product design instead of letting them go to waste.

If shape, scale, or finish affects whether someone buys your product, this app was built with your store in mind.

Setting It Up Takes a Few Minutes

You don’t need a developer for this. Here’s what setup looks like:

  1. Install the app from the Shopify App Store.
  2. Upload a .glb or .gltf file, up to 20MB, and assign it to a product.
  3. Add the viewer block to your theme, or use the copy-paste embed if your theme isn’t on Online Store 2.0.
  4. Adjust the camera angle, lighting, and background in the live preview.
  5. Save and publish.

The app also includes a guided checklist that walks through each step, along with a built-in check that tells you exactly what your theme supports and how to fix anything that isn’t set up right.

If you’d rather watch it than read about it, here’s a quick walkthrough of the viewer running on a real product page:

Pricing

Easy 3D Viewer Shopify App Pricing

Every plan gets every feature. The only difference between plans is how many products and models you can publish, not what the viewer can do. You’re never paying more to unlock a feature that should already be included.

Each product can carry one model, and each model belongs to one product, across every plan. Yearly billing is available at a discount, and coupon codes can be applied inside the app. See the pricing page for the most current numbers.

What’s Next for Easy 3D Viewer

This is the first version, not the last. We’re already working on more lighting presets, better performance for models on slower connections, and wider AR format support as new standards roll out.

Updates get shaped by what merchants actually ask for through the app, not by what we assume they want. If there’s something you’d like to see next, we want to hear it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add a 3D model to my Shopify store?

Install Easy 3D Viewer from the Shopify App Store, upload a .glb or .gltf file, assign it to a product, and add the viewer block to your theme. The whole process is guided inside the app.

Do I need to already have a 3D model?

Yes. The app displays and controls 3D models, but it doesn’t create them. If you have files from a manufacturer or product designer, you can upload those directly.

Does AR work on both iPhone and Android?

Yes. Android AR works straight from your uploaded .glb file. iPhone AR needs a second file in Apple’s .usdz format, which you provide. Without it, iPhone shoppers still get the full 3D viewer, just not the AR placement step.

Will this slow down my store?

No. The 3D file only loads on pages where you’ve placed a model, and everything is served from Shopify’s own network, the same one your store already runs on.

Does it work with my theme?

The drag-and-drop viewer blocks need a modern Shopify theme (Online Store 2.0). If you’re on an older theme, you can still add the viewer using the copy-paste embed instead.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 products with a 3D model and has no time limit. Paid plans come with a 7-day free trial.

Can I use it anywhere besides the product page?

Yes. You can place a model on your homepage, a landing page, or a blog post, plus a copy-paste embed for anywhere else and a shareable link for every model.

What happens if I cancel or downgrade?

Your models stay in your library. Anything above your new plan’s limit just stops showing on your storefront until you remove enough models to fit or subscribe again.
